History

Skipton Choral was set up in 2013 under the leadership of Ben Crick, to sing mainly large scale choral works with the Skipton Camerata orchestra. The choir became independent in 2015, when Toby Wardman took over as MD and it became a registered charity in 2016. In September the following year, after a brief period with an interim MD (Yonni Levy), Robert Webb took over. He has been our MD ever since. His ambition for the choir has resulted in us giving acclaimed performances not only in Christ Church and the Town Hall in Skipton, but also in Selby Abbey and the iconic Priory Church at Bolton Abbey.

Over the years we have performed many well-known choral works, including:

  • Haydn: The Creation.

  • Bach: St John Passion

  • Mendelssohn: Elijah

  • Beethoven: Choral Symphony.

  • Faure: Requiem

  • Handel: Messiah

  • Vivaldi: Gloria

  • Mozart: Mass in C

  • Durufle: Requiem

  • Finzi: Lo, the full, final sacrifice; in Terra Pax

  • Britten: A Ceremony of Carols

We have also performed many contemporary works, including:

  • Karl Jenkins: The Armed Man, Stabat Mater and Symphonic Adiemus

  • Rutter: Requiem, Magnificat,

  • Chilcott: Little Jazz Mass, Gloria
