WELCOME TO SKIPTON CHORAL!

Skipton Choral is a large, well-established and sociable mixed-voice choir with an excellent reputation. While we perform mainly classical music, we believe that what sets us apart from other choral societies is that we only occasionally perform the ‘standards’ that other choirs seem to churn out annually (like Handel’s Messiah and Mozart’s Requiem), but instead concentrate on generally lesser-known/sung classical works and more modern/innovative pieces, like Will Todd’s jazzy Passion Music and Karl Jenkins' Symphonic Adiemus.

We usually perform three concerts each year, typically in Skipton (Christ Church or the Town Hall), but also elsewhere. For example, in 2024 we gave concerts in the iconic Bolton Abbey Priory Church and in Selby Abbey and in November 2026 we’ll be performing in York.

We rehearse on Monday evenings in Christ Church, Skipton, from 7.15 to 9.15pm.  We could do with quite a few more men! - see 'Sing with us We're a very sociable choir - see 'Social- so please do consider joining us!

OUR MUSICAL DIRECTOR, Robert Webb

Our Musical Director, Robert Webb, has been with us since 2017.  He's a wonderful singing teacher who has helped us to dramatically improve our singing; he always warms us up properly and makes us consistently practice all the important singing techniques, like breathing in properly, sustaining breath, which mouth shapes are good/bad, and the importance of different vowel sounds. It also helps that he can (apparently effortlessly) sing all our parts - even soprano! But, perhaps more importantly, Robert makes our rehearsals fun, treats us like adults and never gets angry when we haven’t practised enough!
